Welcome to Sharing Creative Energy
     Sent 9/12/2002

Welcome to Sharing Creative Energy, our monthly electronic newsletter focused on bringing more creativity and energy to your life and work while also taking care of yourself, written by Darla Arni.

Our creative energy, that spark within us that makes us unique is wonderful to share with others, unfortunately, we so easily give away our creative energy instead of sharing it, which leaves us depleted, exhausted, overwhelmed, and often resentful. Not a very positive picture is it? This newsletter, like my presentations, will provide understanding and concrete ways to bring your life into better balance, whether you are a CEO, teacher, entrepreneur, parent, salesperson, or just a human being!

Last week we had a long awaited project done at our home. We had new, and I might say, awesome landscaping done by someone who just happened to be a former student of mine, Paula. As we planned the project it was clear that, both of us being very creative, visual thinkers, we didn’t always envision the same end result. So we listened to each other, made changes, erased pencil marks, and learned from each other to agree upon a final plan. We both came to the table with strengths. Mine were my creative design background, the knowledge of what I envisioned for my home, and my personal color and plant likes and dislikes. Paula’s were her experience as a landscape designer, knowledge of plants, and her natural aesthetic feelings for the project. Neither of us was wrong in our ideas and we were both right, so we melded the best together to create something of value. And we both enjoyed the process with neither of us feeling like we lost because we didn’t get ‘Our Way”.

Couldn’t we be doing this in our work relationships? Identifying the strengths of everyone involved in a project and using these strengths and cooperation to create a great finished product? It can only happen if we lay aside our baggage of enlarged egos, petty differences and stubbornness of ‘Our way or no way’.

September Challenge
Try this for yourself. Pick one project or committee or whatever you are involved in and operate with a sense of cooperation and identification of strengths rather than weaknesses. Email me about your experiences so I can share your learning with others.
