20 SUMMER FUN IDEAS & SURVIVAL TIPS

Know what I like about creativity? It allows us to adapt to change, imagine, find solutions and thrive not just survive. All my life I have used creativity to improve myself, be a better mother and wife, build a wide range of businesses, and, oh yeah, have a lot of fun!  As promised, this newsletter brings you ideas to help you make the most of what’s left of summer. This is only a beginning, use your creativity to make your own list and feel free to share it with me and others because, hey, we deserve all the summer fun we can get. Enjoy!

  1. Climb on a jungle gym.
  2. Play Frisbee
  3. Go barefoot in the grass.
  4. Freeze a bunch of grapes for a healthy family snack.
  5. Make homemade Cool Pops for pennies a piece.  Ingredients: 1 package instant pudding, 2 ¾ cups milk, 1½ cups whipped topping.  Mix 3  ingredients together, pour into paper cups, and place in freezer until partially frozen. Then push a craft stick into each cup and freeze till firm. When ready to eat, rub the cups between your hands to melt slightly and pull pop from cup. Variation: add chocolate chips, crushed candy bars, candy pieces or granola to pudding mixture before pouring into cups.
  6. Use a magnifying glass to examine a square inch of grass to discover a tiny ecosystem.
  7. Carry a small loaded water gun with you to surprise your good natured friends. Avoid grumps and bullies.
  8. For a family messy night, make a batch of Clean Mud!  Tear up 2 rolls of toilet tissue into small pieces and put in a large plastic container with a lid. Add 1-½ bars of shaved Ivory soap or soap flakes, 2 quarts of warm water and mix. Let everyone get a chance to do some messy, hand mixing. This portable tub of clean mud is safe for all ages of children and can be used several times until you feel it is too yucky for your taste.
  9. Camp out in your backyard.
  10. Learn how to make a flower chain.
  11. Stargaze.  Go to: www.wunderground.com/sky/index.asp,enter your zip code and see a sky map for the date and your location.
  12. Go on an adult picnic; no children and grown up goodies.
  13. Have a weekend movie marathon. Rent several movies with a theme or favorite actor/actress in common, pop popcorn, relax.
  14. Make homemade ice cream. Don’t have an ice cream maker? Go to: http://www.davidlebovitz.com/archives/2007/07/making_ice_crea_1.html for recipes and how-tos.
  15. 1Save money, gas, and time; visit tourist attractions in a 50 to 100 mile radius of your home.
  16. Traveling by car? Hang a shoe bag over the back of the front seat to hold small items and keep the floor clean of clutter. Ideas are: napkins, plastic flatware, straws, kid’s toys, markers, crayons, small electronic games, iPods, books, magazines, sunglasses, sunscreen, and chargers for phones and other electronics.
  17. Buy and eat locally grown, in season fruits and vegetables.
  18. Check into a local hotel, swim in the pool, order room service, explore area shops and restaurants; basically act like you are from out of town.
  19. Lay in the grass and watch the clouds like when you were a kid. What do you see up there; a whale, angel, pirate ship, car, a grumpy old man? Think fun, not Freudian!
  20. Make homemade ice cream sandwiches. They save money and taste better. Bake your favorite cookies, buy your favorite ice cream (or make homemade, see #14), spoon a small ball of ice cream between two cookies, wrap in plastic and freeze. Fancy them up by rolling the edges of the sandwiches in nuts, crushed candy bars, chocolate chips, coconut, or crushed cookies.

WHY AM I OFFERING PRIVATE TELESEMINARS?

  • To fit your time schedule, not someone’s two time zones away.
  • To save you time and money.
  • Because not everyone gets to attend every conference.
  • To share my much needed message with a broader audience.
  • It just makes sense!

Audience members always come up to me after presentations and say, “I wish everyone in our office could hear this message”.  Well now they can!  Your office, department, branch or company can afford to schedule private teleseminars that address your needs, challenges, and unique set of circumstances.  Starting in September I will offer the following topics in teleseminar format:

  • The Energy of Attitude
  • The Creative Mindset
  • Up Thinking in a Down World

Call today to schedule a teleseminar that fits your schedule and budget while bringing a renewed sense of power and commitment to your work environment!  You have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

MENSA MOMENT (This month's puzzle is a real challenge so be careful!)

Sally decided she wanted to give up coffee. She thought she would drink tea instead, until she read that one pound of black tea contains twice as much caffeine as one pound of coffee.  However, Sally should also know that one pound of tea yields about 160 cups, whereas one pound of coffee makes about 40 cups. One 12-ounce can of cola has about one-quarter of the caffeine as a cup of coffee.  How much caffeine is in a cup of tea, relative to a cup of coffee and to a can of cola?

E-mail your answer to Darla. The first 15 correct answers will be entered in our prize drawing. Good luck!

Last Month’s Answer:

If the cab driver had been deaf, he would not have heard the address the passenger had given him. He only mentioned he was deaf when the passenger didn’t stop talking.

Congratulations to our June drawing winner Jennifer Bowen!  Jennifer, please email me an address so I can send your prize.
